Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend Underground Railroad Lunch and Tours on Saturday: a note to any of our weekend guests planning to be in Jamestown, PA this coming weekend. The Gibson House Manor and Carriage House will be open for our Underground Railroad Tour (includes breakfast or lunch). Tours begin at 10 am, 12 noon and 2 pm. We will have a few special guests helping with the tours this weekend and will feature some of the soldiers from the Jamestown, PA area who fought in the Civil War. We will also feature our quilt code stories that slave families used to help their family escape to freedom and a special visit from Mr Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) talking about his take on slavery and his Abolitionist stance after the Civil War. We will also tour the house and Carriage House so you can see the 11 secret hiding places designed into the house and grounds due to the house being built after the

Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. The Gibson House Manor is one of the only Underground Railroad Safe houses in Pennsylvania that is open for tours and virtually unchanged since it was built in 1856. Call 724.456.4983 for reservations. Limit 50 people per tour.
